I am the Secretary of Newham Teachers' Association (NTA). The Association is Newham's branch of the National Union of Teachers. Officers of the NTA are elected each year. I have been elected each year since 1992. The NTA exists to support its members. As a teacher, I worked in the UK and abroad before becoming Secretary of the NTA. In my view, teachers need to participate actively in our Association to ensure that it reflects their views. I am actively involved in the Trade Union movement. My commitment to equal opportunities issues has been consistent throughout my working life. I have received recognition for my service in the field of human rights.
